Guest Blog: Dr. Lesley Phillips, author of The Midas Tree

I would like to share a guest post written by Dr. Lesley Phillips, author of The Midas Tree. Her book is currently available on Amazon as a paperback or e-book.

And now, Dr. Phillips will share her experience writing her novel:

Mighty Oaks from Little Acorns Grow

My new novel “The Midas Tree” grew from a tiny seed of an idea to a mighty 300 page novel in the space of two years. This is quite fast when compared to the growth rate of a tree. It started one winter evening with the knowledge that I was ready.

I had been teaching meditation for about 5 years and practicing the specific techniques that I teach for about 12 years. I know that it can be a great benefit because I have personal experience of how it has changed my life and I wanted to find a way to share this with a larger audience.

Meditation was the door that unlocked the writer within

So I meditated on clearing my blocks to being a writer. That night amazing visions of a strange and fantastic world within a tree were flooding into my consciousness. By the morning I had an outline for the book and had met all of the characters.

From that moment actually getting the details on paper took me about a year. Not because the flow of writing was difficult, but because I have such a busy life, I needed to find moments when I could sit and write.

The process of writing was simple. I would enter a meditative state and the visions would come flooding back into my consciousness. All I had to do was write what I saw. It was like having my own multi-sensory internal movie experience.

Thrust into a magical world of wild imaginings

In “The Midas Tree”, the hero Joshua discovers a golden acorn floating in a stream. It is a magical acorn that causes him to have strange and compelling visions of another reality; just like I did when I was writing the book. When the acorn flies from his hands Joshua chases it across the garden of color and light, which is his home.

The acorn leads him to a strange and mystical tree. There is a door in the base of this great tree and so with a sense of discovery. Joshua crawls through and closes the door. Once inside he cannot leave until he fulfills his destiny and so he is propelled into an amazing life time of adventure.

Each and every child carries the potential for the man or woman they will become.

The acorn symbolizes the potential Joshua holds to fulfill his life purpose and become the great teacher he is destined to be. Ultimately, by way of his experiences and learning, he is able to help others who enter the tree after him to survive its challenges.

The inspiration of the acorn shows how we each contain the potential to fulfill our unique destiny. Just as seeds hold all the information they need to grow into mighty trees, we are born with everything required to become the greatest version of ourselves possible.

I really felt when I wrote “The Midas Tree” that the book already existed on another level of my reality. I just had to reach in and grasp it an pull it through into this dimension. In other words everything I needed to create the book was already there in the world of potentials and possibilities.

And we have the skills we need to overcome our challenges

Just as roots and shoots make their way through around rocks as the acorn germinates and grows, Joshua meets many obstacles and discovers and overcomes of his own shortcomings.

Similarly as seedlings are helped along by trusty gardeners and farmers; as well as the sunshine and the rain, Joshua meets helpful guides called Devas who teach him how to heal himself and cope with the tough lessons that are thrust upon him. He also learns from the animals that also inhabit The Midas Tree.

On my journey of becoming an author, I too found that I had everything I needed, exactly when I needed it to help me create the book and figure out how to market it and have it published.
